American Zinc Products was lucky to have the opportunity to spend the Saturday before Veterans Day helping Habitat for Humanity complete home improvements for local U.S. Veterans in Rutherford County, NC. A group of 15 excited AZP employees braved the cold and the early morning of November 9th to get involved and make a real difference.
We divided up and were able to help two families with their home repairs. With this being the first time AZP has participated in a Habitat for Humanity event, we were thrilled with the outcome and hope to make an even bigger impact the next time around! Our groups were made up of individuals with different skill levels, but it made a perfect balance.
Each group was able to work together, learn new things, and get to know each other outside of the workplace all the while making a difference in the lives of U.S. Veterans!
At one of the sites, our project was to demolish an old, dangerous structure and rebuild a new one that the homeowners could depend on. By the end of the day, they were already planning on how they could start enjoying their new deck!
At the other site, we were able to put in new cabinetry and a hot water heater. This was a larger, ongoing project, but when our work was done the cabinets were in and the hot water heater just needed a little time to heat up!
As the day ended, it was all worth it to see the smiles on the homeowners’ faces. Our volunteers could not stop talking about their day and planning to attend the next build! A huge thank you is owed to Habitat for Humanity for organizing the event and to our volunteers for working tirelessly until the job was completed.
Most importantly, thank you to our U.S. Military Veterans who have dedicated more than imaginable to our country.
